This week, Hey Little Cupcake! were invited to attend the Bee in the City Art Selection event, and be among the very first people to see over 200 Bee designs submitted by both regional and national artists.
What is Bee in the City?
Bee in the City is set to be one of Manchester’s largest public art events ever. Running for nine weeks over summer 2018, a staggering 85 giant Bees will be placed across the City Centre, forming a fun trail and encouraging families to get out and about and explore Manchester in more depth.
At the Art Selection event, the Bee designs were displayed in a gallery-style layout, ready for a stampede of excited sponsors to pick from. The chosen designs will now be comissioned and become part of the Bee Trail.
Of course, we couldn’t attend the event without showing our support for this fantastic initiative, and brought with us 200 of our very own Bees… in cupcake form!
We set up a gold tower and adorned it with our vanilla mini cupcakes, which were decorated with yellow buttercream and topped with little sugar bees and daisies. Needless to say, they were the perfect sweet treat for the attendees and created quite the buzz!
How else are we getting involved?
Not only are the Bee sculptures a means of showcasing Manchester’s industrious, creative spirit; they also depict a more powerful meaning following the tragic events last May; one of strength, resilience and unity.
Born and bred here in Manchester, Hey Little Cupcake! worked tirelessly to assist the We Love MCR charity after the Arena bombing, donating over £1000 to the Manchester Emergency Fund.
Although we don’t have our own Bee sculpture, we will be releasing our Bee in the City cupcake collection, running from 1st – 31st July and donating a percentage of the profits to charity.

So stay tuned for a hive of excitement across Manchester; make sure you take part in the Bee trail this summer and keep your eyes peeled for our brilliant Bee in the City cupcakes!
